AN EXCURSION IN THE COUNTRY!

Salvamos al Rio Laja organized a day trip to Pena Alta ("high cliff") located near San Diego de Union in the northeast corner of Guanajuato.

This natural protected area is a beautiful rustic area of 38,000 acres with sensational oak and pine forest. This protected area, which is managed by Pena Alta A.C,. feeds into the crystal clear water of the reservoir behind the dam of San Franco.

The day was smashingly beautiful, the river was higher than anyone expected, a few trucks braved the crossing, others pitched in to watch or help, while many enjoyed hiking along the road that wound around the picturesque reservoir. A fabulous meal of traditional Mexican food and fresh fish fired in the open air was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone under the shade of a large palapa.
