WHY DO WE RESCUE ENGLISH SPRINGER SPANIELS??

Read this email we've received,
and you'll understand!

Hi Bob, Kelly and I adopted Cody 1.5 years ago from your foster home. I'll try to jog your memory since you have seen so many dogs in the past. Cody needed a muzzle when you first fostered him but then settled in. Also he was the one who had an eye infection, ear infection and on top of that ringworm. He stayed with you at the same time as Hershey.
Well, Cody justed turned 4 years old april 18 and is doing really good for all he's been through,(he even came away unharmed from getting hit by a car.) He is going to start agility training soon.
Anyway, he's a great dog and we couldnt think of what it would be like without him. Hope to see you at one of the esscli events this here. We just wanted to say thank you for bringing Cody into our life.
Thanks again and say hello to Marge for me.

What a wonderful surprise. I found you through a web roulette from AOL.
I have been thinking about getting a new pet lots lately, but everytime I get close I stop. It occurs to me that if I adopt, I want a springer. Springers were our family dogs and I boarded a youngster for about 6 months 5 years ago.

My situation is that I am a 51-year old retired woman who lives in a mobile home park a block from Hollywood Beach, CA. I have a small fenced yard (only 5 ft high) and we have a serious leash law here in the park and outside its gates.

I have a minimal problem with mobility, which would probably improve lots if I would go for daily walks.

Do you think I might be a good candidate for adopting a springer? Can you get me in touch with someone here in CA to talk with?

I read your website from top to bottom. Wonderfully interesting and informative! My hat is off to you Mr. Bob January.

Thanks..................D.A.L.

You made my day!!
Springer, like people, come in all shapes, sizes, and temperments.
There is one who will be right for you, we just have to find it.
All of us rescue people share our resources, and
way down my page is a link to Golden Gate Springer Rescue.
They seem to know everything about CA ESSR people.
If they don't have a Springer, I'll look in the archives and find other
contacts.

Dear Bob:
Your response to my e-mail touched me and I now know that my Springer is out there waiting for me. I haven't had much luck getting in touch with Jan Racey, who is the closest contact to me. However, this morning I talked to Ellen Wetencamp (not Etencamp) with much more success. She doesn't have any dogs available at the moment, but evidentially she often rescues Springers from pounds all over the LA area. She was delighted to hear from me. What a character. She had me call about a dog out in Riverside, about 150 miles from me, but this dog has a problem with his back legs and is a snapper.

I will keep you informed about my search and just want you to know how much I appreciate your interest.......................D.A.L.
lastly:
Dear Bob,

Just wanted to let you know that he found me! Ellen W. called me on Monday and I went to meet him Tues. (and brought him home). It was love at first sight. How could I have ever made it this far without him in my life? His operative name is Wade - I thought maybe Lucky Liberty, but that doesn't seem to make him want to come. Will figure out his name soon. The vet said he was about 3 but I think more like between 1 and 2. Such exuberance. His tail wasn't docked, and he is pretty skinny with long, long legs, but I will remedy that quickly. He is liver and white, has beautiful markings and a real full saddle. And what a lover - I can't even go to the john without him.
I just got it. His name is Lucky "Dancer" Liberty. And in honor of you -- it is perfect. And he DOES love to dance, with these paws that you can hardly feel when he jumps up. (I know this is not the most desirable behavior, but maybe I can make him only do it when he is asked [or maybe a dance card will be the solution].) We have only fox-trotted so far, but I'm sure a waltz and the samba can't be far behind.

I also promise you that I will never dress him up like a reindeer at Christmastime.
Thank you for your help.
D.A.L. and Dancer
